Red Sox GM Ben Cherington, in an email after starter Josh Beckett got hammered for seven runs on seven hits in just 2 1/3 innings in his team's 8-3 loss to the Indians on Thursday night, said that the poor performance was unrelated to the pitcher's decision to go golfing after he'd been scratched from his previous outing. Cherington also said that he did not have any concerns about the degree to which the pitcher held himself responsible for his failures and successes.
