New in Singapore: iPad rentals for tourists

No need to fight with your partner over who gets to use the tablet in Singapore. New venture TouristPads rents out iPads, giving travelers unlimited high-speed 3G connectivity anywhere in the city.

Travelers can reserve their iPad online at www.touristpads.com for S$30 (US$23.76) a day, at least 24 hours before they need it. The iPad will be hand-delivered to them at their hotel or the airport.

Best leave it behind if you're planning a wild night out in the city though. TouristPads says a deposit of S$800 will be blocked on the renter's credit card, which will be unblocked when it gets picked up. In one piece, of course.

In addition to the unlimited 3G connectivity, the real appeal on the rental is its potential to improve visitors' travel experiences. Besides the essentials like Instagram, Twitter and Skype, the iPads are stocked with plenty of local apps covering everything from public transportation to tourist attractions.

Here are just a few of the apps TouristPad has included: Your Singapore Guide; Hungry Go Where, featuring over 6,000 food and beverage outlets on the island; I Eat Hawker, which provides instant access to more than 460 hawker stalls; and Go There, a popular app offering detailed Singapore maps and transport info.
